Sidewalk Art Contest to Promote Traffic Safety
The Ohio State University wants student artists to participate in the first ever sidewalk chalk art contest in conjunction with Share the Road. Please join us on Thursday, March 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. near the Thomas W. Davis Clock Tower in front of the North Recreation Center. Up to $175 worth of prizes will be up for grabs but space is limited so please complete the online form to guarantee your spot. Light snacks and beverages will be offered for student artists.
Each contestant will be given a 2’ x 2’ area on the sidewalk to chalk their traffic safety related artwork. Event attendees will vote on their favorite art and the winner will receive a $100 gift card! The top five vote getters will then have their art shared on the @OhioStateAP Instagram account and whichever receives the most likes in 24 hours will win a $75 gift card.
Ohio State’s Share the Road campaign is an educational initiative to promote safe behaviors when traveling around campus. We all share the road and responsibility when walking, biking, scooting or driving.
No purchase necessary to enter. The contest is open to currently enrolled students at The Ohio State University who are 18 years of age or older. Contestants must register by completing the online form and indicating they wish to enter the Sidewalk Art Contest to Promote Traffic Safety. Entry is limited to the first 30 students who register. Registration will close 24 hours before the event but may be extended if more spots remain. Contestants must show their Buck I.D. and proof of age at the event to participate. The contest will begin on Thursday, March 26 at 5 p.m. EDT at Thomas W. Davis Clock Tower. Contestants should arrive at the event location no later than 4:45 p.m. EDT. Each contestant will be given a 2’ x 2’ area on the sidewalk to chalk their traffic safety related artwork. All designs must be completed within one hour, by Thursday, March 26 at 6 p.m. EDT. Sidewalk chalk will be provided for each contestant. Contestants may not use any materials other than what is provided by the university. Art must adhere to the Share the Road messaging listed below and may not contain any obscene, indecent, or otherwise illegal content.
Event attendees will vote on their favorite art by submitting a ballot at the event. In-person voting will remain open until 7 p.m. EDT, one hour after the chalk drawing time has concluded. Event attendees will be permitted one vote each. Voting results will be announced on the @OhioStateAP Instagram and the winner(s) will be contacted via email. The contestant who receives the most votes will receive a $100 gift card. The top five ranked contestants will be notified by email, and have their art shared on the @OhioStateAP Instagram account. Contestants give The Ohio State University permission to photograph their chalk art and post the photographs on Instagram. Whichever contestant’s design receives the most likes on Instagram will win a $75 gift card. Instagram voting will open Thursday, March 26, 2020 once the top five contestants’ designs have been posted. Instagram voting will close on Friday, March 27, 2020 at 3 p.m. EST. An Instagram account is not required to participate. Prizes will be distributed to the winner(s) by scheduled appointment.
